Shoot 40 Hour Film Challenge

Taking place on Sat 22nd May 2010
About this Event: Shoot is a new initiative developed this year by the members of the Ashburton Youth Council to tie in with the annual event of Youth Week (22-30 May). The project is a challenge offered to young people aged between 12-24 in Mid Canterbury, whereby a group of teenagers will be brought together over a 40 hour period with the single task of creating a short film based around the theme of Youth Culture: What is it to be a young person in Mid Canterbury? The group are supplied with the expertise, equipment and the weekend to fully complete the film (from scripting and shooting to final edits), and it is literally a case of the participants coming onto the course with nothing more than a vague idea, and leaving with a fully produced short film. On the following Saturday (29 May), the Ashburton Youth Week Committee ties in with the Shoot challenge to bring a Red Carpet Affair Premiere Night to the Regent Cinema. This is the opportunity for friends, family, and the general public to come along for the first public screening of the film made the previous weekend. It is envisaged that this will be a night of glitz and glam, with a red carpet being laid and the stars of the film dressed to impress. Following this public screening, Base Youth Cafe will play host to the film’s After Party. This will be a general dance party open to all youth (not just those who attended the premier) with a gold coin at the door. As with all Base Cafe events, this will be a strictly non-alcoholic and drug free event, heavily supervised by both youth and adult volunteers.
